1) Al-hamdulillah, Allah s.w.t. made us a special gift! A very sweet one! It is just about a week old. If you see it from afar, you could think it is a dog. If you come closer, you think it might be a small deer of dark brown colour, but the head resembles more that of a kangaroo. Finally you see it has hooves like a cow. It licks itself like a cat but not that intensive. It appears like a creature out of a fairy tale and it is called Anoa, one of the endemic species found in the Bogani National Park close at our door steps. Only less than 5000 of these Lowland Anoas are still alive! They are most closely related to the Indian water buffalo and live only in deep rainforests. Rattan collectors caught it several kilometres from here. Of course useless to tell them not to do so! It stayed four days with them and lost a lot of weight during that time. But now it looks fresher again and gallops behind us.

We called him Merlin, because he is such a magic animal. He follows us where ever we go, always close to our legs. He is very cute and we are happy to have him here despite the sad story of its separation from its mother. Hope we can replace her a bit and give him nearly 2 liters of milk daily. Grown up he will insyaAllah reach over 200 kg and 90 cm in height. Praised be its creator who never runs out of 'ideas' in His creation.

2) We got the good news from Mogamat Abrahams of the South African Sister Project that there is an organization in Indonesia which mints Islamic Dinar, Dirham and Daniq: Wakala. InsyaAllah we are now in a good position to set up a small Islamic economy in the village, probably setting up a shop which uses Islamic money, with an outside distributor from where we get our daily needs and who accepts Dinar as a form of payment. First small step ...

3) Al-hamdulillah, we got confirmation that our brother Senol will come in the beginning of February to start with the second house, insyaAllah! Other visitors are already expected to arrive soon and we hope and are confident, that we will have a successful year God willing!
